Therapy for Individuals, Couples, Families, Groups
Addictions: NCC, MAC, SAP, ADS
I have practiced psychotherapy for mental health and substance abuse for the past twelve years. Previously, I practiced pharmacy for over twenty-five years. I received my pharmacy degree from Auburn University and my master’s degree in counseling from Trevecca University. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with Mental Health Service Provider (LPC-MHSP) in Tennessee. I am certified as a National Certified Counselor (NCC) through the National Board of Certified Counselors, certified Master Addiction Counselor (MAC) and U.S. Department of Transportation Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) through the National Association of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors (NAADAC). I am also certified as an Acupuncture Detox Specialist (ADS) through the National Acupuncture Detoxification Association. In addition to private practice, my experience includes working with Dual-Diagnosed clients and Clinical Director of a major alcohol and drug treatment facility.
I work with individuals, couples, and families. I have found that some people benefit from one type of therapy at one point in their journey toward health and they benefit from another type of therapy at other points. I believe in a Holistic approach, addressing physical, mental, and spiritual health. My therapeutic approach can best be described as eclectic in that I borrow from a variety of disciplines. I often combine 12-Step Principles where appropriate. Positive life changes are related to positive changes in behaviors and thought content/processes.
My areas of concentration include:
Substance Abuse and/or Dependence
Process Addictions (Sex, Gambling, etc.)
Co-Occurring Disorders (Addiction and Mental Health Issues)
Mood Disorders (Depression, Bi-polar)
Anxiety Disorders (Fears, OCD)
Trauma/PTSD
Co-Dependency
Grief and Loss
Men’s Issues
Alcohol and Drug Assessments (Courts, Department of Transportation)
All of my clients are self-pay. I have chosen not to take insurance because insurance companies often try to dictate the therapeutic process based on financial considerations rather than what the client actually needs. Because of this, I have set my rates very reasonable. Many of my clients are reimbursed from their insurance companies. Please call me, Thurston Moore, at 615-298-2329 with further questions or to schedule an appointment. I look forward to hearing from you.
