Therapy for adults
Specializing in Anxiety and Decision-Making
My name is Bobbie Hand. I am a Nashville native. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in psychology from Tennessee State University in 1996. I earned my Master’s degree in Guidance and Counseling from Tennessee State University in 1999. I have been employed in private practice since then doing therapy with adults as well as performing evaluations on adults and children.
Currently, I work primarily with adults who are dealing with depression, anxiety, or who have problems making decisions. People with those issues sometimes get so focused on what is going badly in their lives that they have difficulty appreciating that they are actually doing many things well. One of our tasks in therapy is to work together to notice what you are doing well so we can build on your strengths. We can then figure out how come some other things are not working well so you can reduce the effects your weaknesses and problems have on your life. Sometimes people discover that they made decisions and formed strategies for dealing with problems a long time ago that might have been appropriate at the time, but no longer work for them. When this happens, people do things that don’t seem to make sense. In reality, people always have reasons for their behavior. Behavior that is working for you needs to be expanded. Behavior that is not working for you needs to be examined so it can be altered. Whatever you are not happy about in your life is something you can understand better, make adjustments in, and change. What would you like to change about yourself?
My practice is entirely self-pay. That is, I have chosen not to sign up with insurance panels because they often ask intrusive questions about my clients and also try to dictate how the therapy should proceed. (Sometimes insurance companies will reimburse for my services; I will assist you in filling out insurance forms so you can get whatever reimbursement your insurance company will provide.) I have a sliding scale for people who are unable to pay the full fee. Although I only have a limited number of openings for sliding scale recipients, I will be happy to discuss the issue of payment with you.
Feel free to call me at 615-298-2329 to ask for more information. Many parents call to discuss their issues and/or their children’s issues before making an appointment to come see me. I will be happy to answer your questions.
